Frequently Asked Questions

Real talk about resume writing, LinkedIn profiles, and why storytelling actually matters. No corporate speak. Just what you need to know.

About Craft Career Studio

What makes Craft Career Studio different from other resume services?

Most resume writers just list your job duties in a fancier font. That’s not what we do.
We start with your story. Who are you? Where have you been? Where do you want to go? From there, we write a resume that actually sounds human — not robotic — while being strategic enough to get past those pesky ATS systems and land in front of a real hiring manager.
Every word is custom-written by Mae or Debra. No templates. No AI. No copy-paste. Just you, your experience, and your next move.

Why does storytelling actually matter in a resume?

Because hiring managers are human. They’re not robots scanning for buzzwords — they’re looking for someone who can actually do the job AND make an impact.
A resume built on storytelling shows them who you are, not just what you did.

Why does storytelling actually matter in a resume?

Yes. 100%. We promise. No AI tools. No templates. No junior interns. Mae or Debra will write it. They’ll chat with you, dig into your background, understand what makes you special, and craft a resume that feels authentic to you. This is what separates us from the resume factories and ChatGPT

Who actually writes the resumes?

Mae Schaefer and Debra Wheatman. They’re the co-founders, and they’re the ones doing the writing.
Mae has a background in corporate and product marketing (tech and media). She’s got an MA in English and knows how to tell a brand story — which is basically what your resume is.
Debra spent years in HR at major companies, so she knows what hiring managers are actually looking for. She’s also a Certified Professional Career Coach, which means she gets the bigger picture of your career direction. Together, they’ve got the expertise to position your experience in a way that actually works.

Services & Pricing

What do you actually offer?

Three things:

  • Resume Writing ($799) — A custom-written resume that tells your story and gets results.
  • LinkedIn Profile Optimization ($199) — Because recruiters live on LinkedIn. Make yours count.
  • Resume + LinkedIn Bundle ($899) — Both services, written together, so your story is consistent everywhere. This is the play.

Why is the bundle "best value"?

Think about it: a recruiter will look at your LinkedIn before they read your resume. If those two things don’t match — or if one is way stronger than the other—you’ve already lost momentum.
When we write them together, they tell one story. Your resume says X. Your LinkedIn says X. Your personal brand is consistent across all platforms. That’s powerful.
Plus: you save $99 ($799 + $199 = $998, but you pay $899). Small thing, but we like small wins.

ATS & Strategy

What's an ATS, and why should I care?

ATS = Applicant Tracking System. It’s software that companies use to scan resumes before a human ever sees them.
Here’s the rough reality: if your resume doesn’t have the right keywords or formatting, the ATS filters you out. And you never even knew you were in the running.
We write resumes that are strategic enough to get past these systems — but actually readable and compelling to humans. It’s not keyword stuffing. It’s just smart positioning.

Won't you just keyword-stuff my resume?

Nope. That’s the fast-food approach, and your resume would read as if a robot wrote it.
Instead, we place keywords naturally — in your accomplishments, in your role descriptions, in your summary. They belong there because they’re actually relevant to what you did. The result? Your resume passes the ATS AND keeps a hiring manager reading because it’s interesting.

How It Works

What's the actual process?

It’s simple:

  1. You order and reach out
  2. Mae or Debra calls or emails you to chat about your background, goals, and what you’re going for
  3. They write your resume (5–7 business days)
  4. You review it, and we iterate until it feels right
  5. You get your polished resume, and you’re ready to apply

That’s it. No forms. No templates. Just a real conversation with a real writer.

How long does it actually take?

Typical turnaround is 5–7 business days from start to finish. That includes the conversation, the writing, and the revision rounds.
If you need it faster, we have rush options. Just ask.

What do you need from me?

During your conversation, just be honest about:

  • Your current role and what you’ve done
  • Where do you want to go next
  • What you’re proud of (your wins, your impact)
  • What matters to you in a job

Your current resume helps as a reference, but it’s not required. We’re more interested in your story than your formatting.

LinkedIn

Why should I care about my LinkedIn?

Because recruiters are there. A lot. And if your profile is weak or generic, you’re missing opportunities.

A strong LinkedIn profile gets you:

  • Found by recruiters looking for your skillset
  • Better context when someone clicks your profile
  • A professional presence that supports your personal brand

Should I do the resume + LinkedIn bundle?

If you’re serious about your job search? Yeah. Your LinkedIn profile is often the first thing people see. If it doesn’t match your resume or if it’s weak, you’ve lost momentum before they even read your actual resume. When we write them together, they reinforce each other. Same story. Same positioning. Better results.

Comparisons

Why not just use ChatGPT?

ChatGPT can write a resume in 30 seconds. It’s fast. It’s free. And it probably sounds exactly like 1,000 other resumes. AI doesn’t know your story. It can’t ask follow-up questions. It can’t make nuanced decisions about what to emphasize. The result? Generic. Forgettable. Blends right into the pile. A human writer (especially one who knows how to position careers) creates something that actually reflects who you are. And that gets noticed.

Why not just use a template?

Same issue. Templates are designed to be one-size-fits-all. Guess what that means? They fit no one really well. Your experience is unique. Your story is unique. Your resume should be, too.

So what makes you different from other resume writers?

Most resume services focus on formatting or keyword optimization. We focus on storytelling.

We believe your resume should communicate:

  • Who you are
  • What you bring
  • Where you’re headed

Not just what you did, that’s the difference.
